What is process printing?
This is the print style that you will want to use when you have a full-color design or a photograph. We are huge fans of Simulated Process Screen Printing in these situations, versus Four Color Process.

New to Screen Printing
First, a Little Screen Printing History...
Screen printing was a technique first used by the Chinese almost 2000 years ago. Human hair was stretched across a wooden frame to create a screen. Stencils made from leaves were then attached to the screens. This is considered to be the first application of screen printing.
Later, the Japanese adopted the screen printing process and used woven silk to create the mesh and lacquers to make stencils. The use of silk is where screen printing got its alternative name "Silk Screening".
When it comes to apparel printing, screen printing is the industry standard for superior quality. Most graphic tees sold in major retail stores have been screen printed. The process is designed to make garments bold in appearance yet cost effective at the same time.
Today, screen printing is accomplished by making a mesh stencil (called a screen) for each color that needs to be printed. Screens must be lined up (or registered) and printed on test sheets to ensure that all of the colors line up correctly. Inks are then pushed through the screens one color at a time onto the apparel. Finally, each piece is run through a large dryer to cure the inks.

Screen printing is designed to be printed in bulk. The printing part of the process is actually the fastest part. All the costs and time are in the setup. This is why the cost per shirt goes down the more you print per design.
A lot of work goes into getting a shirt ready to print and requires almost every employee at the company. Artwork has to be mocked up and films have to be created. After this, the screens department converts the film into screens. Next, the printers setup the presses to run the shirts. It takes a good bit of time to setup a press to run shirts.
Because of this we cannot print 1 shirt at a time as it would easily cost $150+ to do. The smallest order of shirts we will do is 24 of the same design.
A lot of factors go into the final cost of a screen printed tee. We have tried to make things as simple as possible, starting with providing free screens & setup fees. We also provide our special underbase free of charge. You just need to decide what garment you would like to print on, how many shirts you want of each design and how many ink colors will be in the design.
Check out our Screen Printing Pricing Charts or drop us an email and we can send you a full quote.
Picking out a brand and style can sometimes be the hardest part of the process. There are many different options, catered to different situations and personal preferences. We've attempted to help eliminate some of the confusion on our brands and styles pages to make printing shirts easier.
If you can think of a color, we can print it. The hard part is telling us what the color is. The only true way to do this is by providing us with a PMS color #. To do this you need a Coated Pantone Book. Find the color you want and give us the number next to it.
If you don't know exactly what colors you need, no problem. We will do our best to pick them out for you but cannot guarantee a perfect outcome (this is called "PMS Color Matching"). Every computer monitor is different, so the colors on your screen will look different when displayed on the monitors in our art department.
Your print will only be as good as the artwork you provide. All files need to be at least 300 dpi or vector format & sized to the size it should be printed. Learn more about prepping your artwork files for screen printing.
Most companies charges a screen fee and/or setup fee on top of the printing charge, which can range from $15 to $30 for every color that needs to be printed. That's not how we operate. Our goal is to streamline the process and make you confident in your final product.
At Threadbird, there's nothing "standard" about our standard printing process. We believe that you shouldn't have to pay extra to get a great quality print. We use a special hybrid style of printing, applying a discharge underbase with our special soft inks on top. The outcome is a beautiful, bright, super-soft print (even on dark colored shirts). And they only get softer after you wash the shirts!. We have won multiple awards using this premium screen printing method method and it's all done at no additional charge to you.
(Note: Discharge only works on 100% cotton shirts.)
In order for a print to be perfect you have to print on a smooth, flat surface. Any print that goes over a seam, collar or any other uneven surface will never be perfect because the screens cannot lay flat on the garment. We always recommend staying away from any printing that will go over seams but we will gladly do it at your request.
Note: Threadbird will not accept responsibility or provide refunds for garments that have print errors due to printing over any seam.
"All-Over" printing is accomplished using a process called cut-and-sew, in which the fabric is printed prior to being made into a t-shirt. This is a service that Threadbird does not currently offer. We can print on jumbo screens which are 23.5 inches tall by 17.25 inches wide. This will cover most of the front of a shirt on an adult small not including the sleeves.
Due to the nature of the screen printing process it is very common for a shirt or 2 to be missing from your order. Shirts can get damaged during the printing process or we might get shorted by the vendor. In order to keep prices down, we cannot order extra shirts. Please keep this in mind when ordering (it is never a bad idea to order extras).
We always do our best to get you what you ordered. Whatever you don't receive will be refunded or credited to you.

Ignite Your Mission with Printed Apparel for Your Church
Who is Real Life Church?
Threadbird has the pleasure of working with all types of companies, organizations and fellowships. One fellowship in particular that we’ve been collaborating with since 2018 is Real Life Church.
Based in Florida, Real Life Church is made up of “three campuses, one church” with locations in Orlando, Mt. Dora and Clermont, FL.
Merch for Your Church
Merchandise can be great for giveaways, fundraisers, events, or even uniforms. Real Life Church recognizes the multi-purpose benefits of merch in that it uses branded apparel for various teams and special events, such as welcome and volunteer teams, youth groups, mission trips, and baptism shirts.
Since partnering with Threadbird, Real Life Church has unleashed a world of possibilities. They have created a diverse range of apparel and merchandise across their three campuses, from screen printed t-shirts for church members and ministry staff, to hoodies, stickers, and gift bags. This variety allows them to promote their church mission and beliefs in exciting and innovative ways.
For Real Life Church, designing apparel wasn’t necessarily about bringing in revenue per se but rather about expanding its influence within new and existing communities. With this in mind, their initial goal was to reach those in their local Florida communities who do not know the Gospel or know about Real Life.
Spreading Awareness About Their Church
Investing in branded apparel and merch for their churches has enabled Real Life Church to create better visibility within their local communities and amplify their core mission.
“We aim to create designs that will inspire conversations, enable our members to share their faith and invite others to join our church family.
By creating custom merchandise for our church, Threadbird has allowed us to reach those in our local community who do not know the Gospel and who didn’t know about Real Life Church.”- Lacy McCoy
Working with Threadbird’s team of designers, Real Life Church (RLC) had a vision to design apparel with messaging that would inspire curiosity and spark people’s interest in their church’s mission.
Their mission is simple: They wanted to create apparel that would give them better visibility within their local communities. These efforts were intended to engage with people who weren’t familiar with the Real Life Church or the pillars of their faith.
For instance, their inspirational design, ‘As It Is In Heaven,’ was created to match branded T-shirts for each of their three parishes in Clermont, Mt. Dora, and Orlando. Cohesive branding unifies their mission across their three campuses while distinguishing them from one another.

Inspiring Conversation in the Community
Collaborating with Threadbird's team of designers, Real Life Church (RLC) strives to create apparel designs that can serve as simple yet effective reminders and conversation starters for church parishioners and nonparishers. For example, their inspirational design, 'Love like Jesus' is an encouraging reminder that effectively promotes the core values of RLC's faith.

Fostering Fellowship
Across their three locations, Real Life Church has a leadership team of twelve pastors for their churches. Given their size, they wanted to create apparel for their leaders to represent their prospective church. In a way, the apparel has strengthened the unity and belonging between RLC leaders, parishioners, and community members.
Having branded apparel for their three churches has created a bond between church members and leaders by giving them a sense of belonging and community. Wearing the church's merch in their daily lives also allows members to promote the RLC naturally.
Sharing the Love & Gospel
Real Life Church shares its values and beliefs by turning them into simple slogans to print on apparel. One of their popular designs is 'Crazy About You,' which we screen-printed on hoodies and long-sleeved t-shirts. Featured on the front is their church name, and on the back, in big, bold letters, it reads 'God's Crazy About You.'
“The part of our Merch that has improved the most is the quality. With our most recent line of merch, the biggest compliment we have received is how much they love the way it looks and feels.”
- Lacy McCoy
Real Life Church can naturally initiate meaningful conversations among church leaders, members, and the broader community by creating eye-catching apparel designs to spark those conversations. Having merch for parishioners to wear and represent RLC in their daily lives, in settings like the grocery store, schools, workplace, and other events, enables the church to reach a broader audience outside the immediate communities. In doing so, they hope their merch will attract new people and, ideally, bring in new parishioners.
The three parishes of Real Life Church wanted their merchandise ready and available to all parishioners. To achieve this, RLC parish decided to open a retail store within their church to sell its apparel. In doing so, it quickly saw massive success, as members and parishioners were eager to get their hands on some of its own.
Supporting Sustainable Growth
Rooted in their spirit of giving back to the community, Real Life hosts annual mission trips for the church and various opportunities to volunteer and raise money for selected charities. Driven by their mission to serve others and "love like Jesus", RLC is passionate about all of their events that help them in spreading awareness about important causes that they believe in. In addition to these efforts, the RLC parishes have a youth group for young adults and several events throughout the year for families, church members, and even non-parishioners.
At Threadbird, we genuinely love being a part of our customers' journeys, and for Real Life Church, theirs is just the beginning! Looking forward, their parishes have exciting ideas and plans for continued growth, and we can't wait to help them unfold. Whether you want to expand your outreach, raise awareness about your beliefs or cause, or engage with your community, creating custom merch can help you do so!

Customer Feature: Deli Fresh Threads
Dating all the way back to childhood, Anthony also known as “Biggie” has always loved sandwiches.
“My dad made me breakfast sandwiches every morning before school and I could always count on a bologna sandwich or some sort of sandwich in my lunch”
According to Anthony “Biggie”, almost anything can be made into a sandwich “Spaghetti and meatballs ....put it between two slices of garlic bread and you have a sandwich!”
We recently got an inside look at the brand Deli Fresh Threads, started by Anthony “Biggie” Bencomo in 2013. The web-based deli counter opened on Jan 18th of that year and what started as a small online shop has grown into a brand that sandwich fans have become obsessed with.
Biggie took his passion for t-shirts to the next level while in college at the University of Central Florida with a brand of merch dedicated to the UCF Knights. As time went on he felt the need to branch out and challenge his creativity. After months of research and brand name contemplation, he decided to combine his love for t-shirts and sandwiches: Deli Fresh Threads was born.
So why sandwiches? For Anthony it was easy. A sandwich is the ‘King of Meals’ - it’s something you can have for lunch, breakfast, or dinner.
He puts his love for sandwiches into every detail in the order process, from the custom hem tags to the way he packages each order.
“I package my shirts like the sandwiches they would look like wrapped; a shirt that is about a sub or hoagie will be wrapped like a sub and a PB&J will be folded and wrapped square. When customers open a package (regardless online or from a market) they get a packed bag with their shirt inside, napkin, and a handwritten note.”
It’s the small details like these that help to set his brand apart. He’s created a niche market full of people who love sandwiches just as much as he does.
Biggie is constantly looking for ways to interact with his audience about their shared love of sandwiches. He’s constantly posting his designs on social media (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) and reposting his followers who are wearing them. Anthony “Biggie” even has a website for Deli Fresh Threads that is more than shirts. You can get a real layered look at sandwiches there!
Deli Fresh Threads goes beyond the digital space and connects in person with their followers.
“I created #SandwichEatUp events which are monthly events where I go to local sandwich shops and eat sandwiches with other sandwich lovers.”
A good sandwich needs quality ingredients and the same goes for t-shirts. Deli Fresh Threads prints on amazingly soft and comfortable shirts with really fun bold designs. “I like American Apparel 2001. I am a big guy - I like how the AA2001 shirt feels and fits - as long as you hang dry them.”
Besides being a sandwich lover, Biggie is a true business owner. When it comes to building his brand, marketing his products, and creating new designs he has some great insight. “Communicate and create a community.” is more than just advice, it’s what he’s used to grow his own brand through local events, social media, and reaching out to his community.
We asked Biggie for some final advice for anyone looking to start their own t-shirt company and this is what he had to say:
“My advice is to find a great printer that you trust and does quality work. When starting it's ok to have champagne taste with a beer budget. You can start small and build up from there.
I know we live in a world of immediate gratification. Run the race but know it's a marathon, not a sprint. Stay focused and consistent with your brand; believe in yourself and the concept and put the work into it.”
